elizabethereum aka ‘noot’ provided an ETH-XMR atomic swap development update. More information and a link to the roadmap can be found here.
The next Monero Development Workgroup meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 29 January 2022 at 17:00 UTC. The meeting should take place on IRC-Libera/Matrix2 in the #monero-dev channels.
The MAGIC Monero Fund has its first advisory committee! This advisory committee will make investment and grant disbursement decisions for the MAGIC Monero Fund. The Fund has starting assets of 200 XMR from a generous anonymous donor to improve the Monero ecosystem and support development. MAGIC Grants is a public charity that provides undergraduate scholarships for students interested in cryptocurrencies and supports various critical cryptocurrency public payment infrastructure. The Monero mining community have expressed concern over the minexmr pool having a large percentage of hashrate. Miners are urging participants to stop mining to minexmr in order to ensure and build a decentralised global network.

It is highly recommended you solo mine to help secure the network. You can solo mine via the official Monero GUI wallet which can be found here, or better yet partake in pool mining and join the decentralized and permissionless P2Pool.

Unkn8wn69 built a Telegram Bot which can function as a nice tool to check your current mining statistics within your messenger. A public version of the bot is available at the Telegram Handle @moneroocean_en_bot. Check out this post for more information.
Oscar Mira, the lead developer of Molly which is an independent Signal fork for Android, provided an update on his efforts to build a secure messaging app with integrated support for Monero payments and a decentralized backend. Check it out here.

Tari, a digital assets focused blockchain protocol that is built in Rust, private by default, open source, and is being architected as a merge-mined sidechain with Monero, provided an update on their developments throughout 2021. Check it out here.

Monero was recently represented by Doug, Justin, and others at the North American Bitcoin Conference. No doubt the Monero community appreciates them spreading the word of Monero!
Monero was recently mentioned on a Timcast IRL stream as an alternative to Bitcoin. Timcast IRL has over 1.21 million subscribers, and the below video has had over 500k views.
In November 2021 NetworkChuck, a YouTuber with 1.83 million subscribers, taught his 1.8 million followers how to mine Monero on a Raspberry Pi. Watch it here.

Exchanges and Merchants
OrangeFren is a new website which lets you quickly compare the exchange rates of instant exchanges (ChangeNow, FixedFloat, etc) trading Monero, Bitcoin and Litecoin. The great thing about OrangeFren is they claim they also check atomic swaps for BTC->XMR trades and will let you know if there’s a better rate available instead of using an instant exchange. Following confusion from some Monero community members regarding the canary page on their website, LocalMonero has updated their canary page to bring it in line with community expectations and provide clarity. As stated on the page — “LocalMonero / AgoraDesk has never provided any law enforcement organization a feed of our users’ activities.”
Bybit recently announced they are adding an XMR/USDT derivative pair.

Community Crowdfunding
selsta, a Monero developer who is working on but not limited to preparing for the next network upgrade, is seeking funding for their next few months of work. If you can spare a few XMR check out their proposal here.
The organisers of the MoneroKon 2022 conference are still seeking funding. This is a great initiative so lend them some support over on the CCS page here. They’re about half funded. Additional information can be found here and here.
Two crowdfunding proposals are awaiting community feedback before they can start accepting funds through the Community Crowdfunding System (CCS). One is for Russian translations, the other is for educational content. For now they are just proposals, but if they receive some positive feedback from the community they will be moved to a ‘Funding Required’ stage so that they can accept Monero donations through the CCS.
And in case you missed it, Monero Bounties is a relatively newer website in which Monero users can support contributors and developers.
