Development, Releases, and Technology
The official Monero v0.18.3.0 Fluorine Fermi has been officially tagged for both CLI and GUI versions, however Selsta has advised builders to wait for the upcoming release v0.18.3.1, which is expected within the next week or two.
Selsta provided an update on their recent work, mainly focused on release-related tasks for v0.18.3.0. During this process, they identified a pre-existing bug related to the block weight cache that wasn't introduced in the current release. To ensure widespread adoption of the block weight bug fix, they've opted to skip v0.18.3.0 and prepare v0.18.3.1 instead. Additionally, Selsta investigated and resolved an issue causing the "duplicate key: support_flags" error message, and they reviewed Trezor-related changes from PR 8752.
Bitmain's recent announcement regarding the development of Monero ASIC miners, which later proved to be inaccurate, led to their listing for sale on their website. However, upon customers receiving and inspecting these miners, it became evident that Bitmain, a major ASIC manufacturer, had created a Monero miner consisting primarily of just several Sophon SG2042 CPUs.
In the ongoing effort to enhance Monero's performance, tevador has submitted a pull request with the goal of boosting the efficiency of Monero's RandomX PoW algorithm on RISC-V processors.
SChernykh has launched P2Pool v3.7, introducing new features like adding worker data to local/stratum files and addressing various bug fixes, including data race issues. Miners are advised to create a dedicated wallet solely for mining purposes on P2Pool to enhance privacy, as all wallet addresses are publicly visible. More information can be found here.
4rkal has released MoneroOS v0.3.7, an operating system tailored for XMR miners. MoneroOS is a live OS designed to easily begin mining Monero upon boot with only minimal configuration. It is inspired by NiceHash OS and is based on Arch Linux, created using archuseriso. More information and releases can be found here.
Serai DEX has officially launched its new website, now live and accessible. Serai DEX is a dedicated decentralized exchange designed for Monero and other cryptocurrencies, offering a unique liquidity-pool-based trading experience. Additionally, Serai has initiated a series of informative articles about their platform, providing a comprehensive insight into Serai, available in the blog section of their website in the coming weeks. RINO has announced that its enterprise wallet, designed to cater specifically to organizations, is now available for free. This wallet offers secure workflows, cost savings, and trust through non-custodial solutions, utilizing Monero Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology to empower teams with unique functionalities, such as assigning roles and implementing policies for fund interaction. The move aims to facilitate wider adoption of Monero within the mainstream financial industry. More information can be found here.
Luke Profits, the creator of the of the Monero Subscriptions Wallet, announced the Monero Subscription Code protocol is evolving to accommodate recurring subscriptions, set-number-of-payments plans, and one-time payments, allowing merchants to create unique Monero Payment Codes with instructions for users. Additionally, there are plans for a Monero Business Wallet to facilitate payments and provide options for converting to stable coins, aiming to enhance accessibility for merchants while supporting the Monero circular economy. LocalMonero-AgoraDesk has released their mobile app v1.1.13. This update featuring bug fixes that address issues with the payment window display, payment window information in ads, and disputes in local trades. Downloads can be found here.
Cake Labs has released Cake Wallet v4.10.0 and Monero.com v1.7.02, featuring the addition of Nano wallet creation functionality, WalletConnect for ETH wallet integration with dApps, support for obtaining addresses from ENS and Mastodon, along with various bug fixes and minor enhancements. ANONERO released ANON v0.7.1. Anon is a privacy focused Monero wallet for android. This release includes updates such as restoring keys via QR code and background sync notification. Check it out here. ANONERO download links on their website can be found here.
Additionally, w1ck3dAF provided a guide on how to use ANONERO’s recently launched DIY hardware wallet feature within their Android app, providing an air-gapped solution for secure transactions. This feature utilizes animated QR codes to create, sign, and broadcast air-gapped transactions, all while ensuring privacy through Tor. Trocador.app is celebrating its first anniversary with a series of new features to provide an even better exchange aggregation service. These include automatic rate adjustments, ensuring accurate predictions of the amount users will receive, enhanced transparency with ETA estimates for each exchange, and a more user-friendly interface. Well-known YouTuber Mental Outlaw recently uploaded a video titled Monerica - The Monero Economy's 'Yellow Pages’. Monerica serves as a directory dedicated to fostering a circular Monero economy. It features various sections covering businesses, communities, education, exchanges, mining, wallets, and more, offering users the opportunity to connect with goods and services and conduct transactions using XMR.
Monero continues to be one of the most used cryptocurrencies on Coincards.com, and is essentially equal in use to Bitcoin.
Christopher Pfeiffer published an opinion piece titled Best No KYC Exchanges For Monero (XMR) in 2023. As is always the case, do your own research and exercise caution whenever using an unfamiliar exchange service.
uThrive Labs, a brand focused on holistic health and wellness, accept XMR. Their products seem to include supplements, detox procedures, and wellness bundles, which they believe can empower individuals to take control of their health. It's important to note that the website mentions that their statements and supplements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
Several crowdfunding proposals are awaiting community feedback before they can start accepting funds through the Community Crowdfunding System (CCS). For now, they are just proposals, but if they receive some positive feedback from the community they will be moved to a “Funding Required” stage so that they can accept Monero donations through the CCS.
Trading and Speculation
Josh Olszewicz provided analysis of XMR/BTC price action over the past six months.
On the XMR/ETH daily chart, it appears that Monero is poised to outperform Ethereum in the upcoming weeks/months. This is indicated by XMR's recent breakthrough above a significant resistance and support level.
In contrast to the broader crypto bear market, Monero transactions have demonstrated resilience by maintaining consistent activity levels, indicating real usage. Following a dip in transaction volumes during the latter part of 2022, XMR transactions experienced a notable surge in Q1 2023, remaining consistently higher than the year's lowest points.
